Another fun project to do during this COVID-19 time. I know it is not easy for everyone. It helps to do these weekly DIY Projects to keep me sane. This week I made these fun and simple Decoupage Candles.

One of the souvenirs I always bring from the Netherlands are paper napkins. There are vintage type of napkins, but also cute, more modern napkins. My American mother-in-law always asks if we can bring some from either IKEA or the Netherlands.

You can find more here and here.

Materials

Of course you can use any type of paper napkins. I just had some Dutch ones lying around;0) The only thing I thought I had more of , were candles. I found one little one only. I’ll post more pictures if I find more candles. I know I have them somewhere!!!

You can see the 3 layers of the napkin.

What to do?

A paper napkin usually exist of 3 sheets of paper. Cut the desired shape out of the napkin. Peel the top layer off for this project. Work carefully, because one layer of a napkin is very thin.

There are 2 options:

  1. You can use a spoon and a tealight: Carefully place the napkin you just cut out on the candle. Hold the spoon (the back, not the bowl side) over the lit tea light. It can get hot. You can wear a glove, use a long spoon and have breaks in between. Gently rub over the napkin with the back of the hot spoon. From the center of the shape to the edges. The wax of the candle will melt and functions as a “glue” for the napkin to stick on the candle. You can see that the napkin will get a different color (darker usually). Be sure all the paper is worked into the wax.
  2. You can use a hair blower: This method will heat up more of the candle at once. Now watch also your other hand which is holding the candle. This method is less precise, but might be a little quicker.

I just love this craft. It is so easy and makes a perfect gift….or use them to brighten up your room.

Note: If you light the candle later on, always keep an eye on the candle. Just in case it catches fire. It never happened to me before, but just in case!!!

A quick decoration for the Holidays

Crafts with candles.

I was decorating the table with a center piece for Christmas. My white candles were boring, so I decided to do a quick craft and make these snowflake candles for my Christmas center piece.

And this is the result:

This is a great gift for teachers. In 2021 I decoupaged small candles, wrapped them in clear foil and added a tag with a twine. Sooo cute!
